Online Omaha High
Low Poker Games Reviews and Recommendations
Online Omaha is, just like
online Texas Hold’em, a
community card poker game (meaning there are 5 cards
dealt which can be used by every player). The difference
with Texas Hold Em lies within the amount of
cards dealt
to each player. The players playing
Omaha Holdem are
dealt 4 cards each before the flop. Then a betting round
begins, after this the 3 card flop is dealt which is
similar to Texas Hold-em. The river and the turn are
also played the same way as it is the case with
Texas Hold'em. Although, a player can only use 2 of his faced
down cards and 3 of the community
cards to make his or
her best poker hand.
So basically, the rules of Omaha High ( High, because players need to get the
best poker hand) are similar to the ones used when playing
Texas Hold’em, with
the exception of the rule that says 2 cards of your hand must be used to make
your best Poker hand.
So even if for example 5 hearts are dealt as community
cards, you will not have
a flush unless you have 2 hearts in your hold cards.
Omaha games are often played as following, called
Omaha High / Low split. A High
hand is made by making the best poker hand using 2
cards of your hold
cards. For
a Low hand 2 different cards from your hand may (not necessarily) be used. A low
hand is made by using your 2 lowest (ace is lowest, king highest) value
cards
from you hold hand together with the 3 lowest community
cards. However, pairs
can’t be used, so if you have 2 aces in your hand, 1 ace doesn’t count for your
Low Hand, but with 2 aces in your hand you do have an ok high hand... Some
casinos have rules about what the highest
card can be in a low hand. In example
one variation which is seen often is eight or better. A low hand must contain 5
cards and the highest
card cannot be higher than an eight.
With Omaha High / Low split, each round the pot is split equally between the
players with the high and the low hand. Unless a
player has won both the high
and low hand, or there is no low hand.
The online casinos offer a lot of variations of
Omaha, whether it is
Omaha High
/ Low or Omaha high, the
casinos usually have different tables and
tournaments
with Limit Hold ‘em ( where players cant
bet more than the big blind till after
the turn, where they can bet double the big blind ), No Limit ( where they can
bet the minimum of the big blind up to the maximum of chips they have )and Pot
Limit ( where they can place bet with the minimum of the big blinds up to the
size of the pot ).
Online Omaha is favored by many
poker players because there is a higher chance
of getting nice poker hands then with for example
Texas Hold’ em. Also the
Online Omaha High / Low split is attracting many players because the pot is
usually split between two players, so there is a higher chance to win, which is
nice for aggressive players.
